Police kept busy by impaired drivers ahead of Christmas.

Police arrested seven people on impaired driving charges over the holiday long weekend. THUNDER BAY — Suspected impaired drivers kept Thunder Bay Police busy over the holiday weekend. A 22-year-old man was charged with multiple offences after being stopped along Red River Rd early Saturday morning. Police had located the vehicle after receiving reports that a truck matching its description had collided with a tree in a parking lot on Memorial Avenue.

Initially, the suspect resisted arrest, after police determined him to be intoxicated, but eventually complied and was brought into custody. This suspect has been remanded into custody until a future court date.

Another male driver was charged with impaired driving after police located him asleep at the wheel at the intersection of Edward Street South and Walsh Street East, at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.

City police had received multiple reports of a driver passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle.

After locating the unresponsive 32-year-old man in the truck, they put the vehicle into park and turned off the engine for safety reasons. Police quickly determined the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested and brought to the police station for further testing.

The Thunder Bay man is facing various alcohol-related charges.

A third incident involved a ditched vehicle along Memorial Avenue in the early hours of Boxing Day.

Police attended to a single-vehicle collision where they located a car in the ditch and unoccupied.

Officers investigated and were led to a business on Memorial Avenue and were able to identify the male who matched the description of the vehicle owner.

As a result, a 22-year-old Thunder Bay man has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and failure to comply with a demand. He was issued a 90-day driver’s license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

In total, police arrested seven people on impaired driving charges over the holiday long weekend.
